Privacy policy

Your time and notes stay yours.

The short version

  • SwitchTally saves your timers, notes and templates on your own device. They are never sent to us.
  • There is no account, no sign in, no ads and no tracking. The app has no analytics.
  • Our home page counts visits anonymously with Cloudflare Web Analytics. That is the only counting we do, and it never involves your timers or notes.
  • We cannot see what you record, so we cannot share it or sell it.
  • The only time anything leaves your device is when you choose to: voice notes (off unless you turn them on), email, or saving a file.

What the app stores, and where

SwitchTally keeps the following on your device only, in your browser's storage:

  • Your task names, times and notes for the session in progress.
  • Templates you save.
  • Your settings, such as dark or light mode.

If you add SwitchTally to your home screen, your device also keeps a copy of the app's files so it works without internet. That copy holds no personal information.

This data is never uploaded. SwitchTally has no server that receives it and no account system to link it to you.

What we collect

From the app: nothing. We do not collect, store or receive your timers, notes, templates, settings, device details or usage information. The app page has no analytics script.

From the website: anonymous visit counts on the home page only, explained in This website below.

We do not use advertising, tracking pixels or cookies. We do not sell or share personal information, because we do not have any from the app.

Voice notes (web version)

Voice notes are off by default. SwitchTally has no speech engine of its own. If you turn on the mic button in Settings, your browser sends what you say to its own speech service to turn it into text: Google in Chrome, Apple in Safari. That service's privacy policy applies to that audio. We never receive it.

You can type notes instead, or use the mic key on your phone's keyboard. That follows your phone's own dictation settings.

Email, CSV and print

When you conclude a session you can email the summary, download it as a CSV file, or print it. Each of these only happens when you tap the button.

  • Email opens your own mail app with the summary filled in. You choose who it goes to. It is sent by your email provider, not by us.
  • CSV saves a file to your device.
  • Print uses your device's print or save as PDF feature.

Once a summary leaves the app this way, it is handled by the service or person you sent it to.

If your notes are about other people

Teachers, clinicians, consultants and others may write notes about students, patients or clients. Those notes stay on your device like everything else. If you email or export them, you are responsible for following the privacy rules that apply to your work, such as your school's or employer's policies. A simple habit that helps: use first names, initials or codes instead of full names.

This website

switchtally.com is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes basic technical information, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. We do not use this information to identify or track you. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

The site loads its fonts and files from switchtally.com itself. It makes no requests to outside services such as Google Fonts, and it has no advertising code.

Visit counts

The home page uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits, such as how many people visit, which pages they open, their country and which site sent them. It sets no cookies, uses no local storage, does not fingerprint your device and does not track you across other sites. We use these counts to see whether SwitchTally is useful and to decide what to improve.

The app page (switchtally.com/app/) has no analytics script. What you do inside the app is not counted, and your timers and notes never leave your device.

Feedback

The app has an optional Send feedback link. It opens your own mail app with a short email to [email protected]. You decide what to write, and every part of it, including your job or field, is optional. Nothing is sent unless you press send in your mail app.

We use feedback only to improve SwitchTally and to reply to you. Ask us any time and we will delete it. Please do not include names of students, patients or clients.

When you email us

If you email [email protected], for support or to hear when the phone apps launch, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply to you, and to send the one launch message if you asked for it. We do not add you to a mailing list, share your address or sell it. Our email is provided by Google, so Google's privacy policy also applies to those messages.

Ask us any time and we will delete your emails.

Deleting your data

Because your data is only on your device, you control it:

  • In the app, open Settings and tap Clear saved data.
  • Or clear your browser's data for switchtally.com.

Once cleared, it cannot be recovered. We have no copy.

Children

The SwitchTally app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Our website counts visits anonymously. Students can use the app, and their data stays on their device. If a child has emailed us and a parent wants that email deleted, contact us and we will delete it.

Phone apps

SwitchTally apps for iPhone and Android are in development. They follow the same promise: no account, no tracking, no analytics, data kept on your device. The website visit counts apply to the website only. If they need a permission, such as the microphone for voice notes processed on the device, we will explain it here before they launch.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update it on this page and change the effective date at the top. If a change affects what leaves your device, we will say so clearly in the app.
